The shark can also be disabled if you really want, also with 3rd party means. That can be done with 3rd party means by the way. If you were to set the game speed to 24 hour per 6 real life hours you'd notice a difference for sure. Well the food and drinking system makes sense for how short a day is compared to many other games. i could even buy fast food with the money and still have a more enjoyable experience. the developers declaring this the final product after years of early access is a major insult. there's countless games that do open world crafting survival better, just pick one at random really.įrom a coding perspective there's a lot of things that could easily be tweaked to improve the game immensely. even playing with my friends couldn't save the experience for me and we quickly went back to 7daystodie. it's one of the worst games of its genre, if not one of the worst games i have ever played in 20+ years. I can't believe this game is a global top seller. and that's an important distinction in game design. The game isn't too hard for me, it's just really annoying. you can never catch a break and just admire the view in this game, it's very min max and feels like work. to make matters worse, you're constantly having to make new tools since they break and can't be repaired. every moment i am doing something involving working towards restoring my hunger and thirst (which drain unrealistically fast) all while counting in my head the exact minutes until the next shark attack, who for some reason are psychic and follow you the entire game. I was hopeful that with so much time in development since the last patch they'd have a few dozen new early game features/items/crafting systems to liven things up but there were no such surprises. For a game set in the ocean it's incredibly shallow. When there is a bit more variety of play to make that progression a bit more fresh then I'll check it out. I don't really have a good reason to slog through some grind just to see story bits that I can experience when the game is more fleshed out. Right now it's fairly linear and repetitive. A lot more can be done to liven up the discoveries when sailing about as well as deepening the ways in which you go about addressing your basic necessities. The extension of the story was certainly needed as the end came quite quickly but I find a long drawn out meh of an experience just to fill time isn't as important as the individual moments themselves being filled with meaningful choices. Verly little has been done to add much in the way of gameplay depth. The new story bits look fine but I play games for the gameplay and that hasn't notably changed. I have played the game and the parts of it that bored me have not been addressed with this update. Originally posted by Grezko:Criticizing without having even tried it - can't say i am surprised. I thought this team was different but given the time it takes them to get new content out I can only assume there's a ton of work under the hood that they've still got to work out that's holding them back. Too many devs appear to be jumping into it well before they're really ready. I think much of it just comes from burn out on EA in general. I've got a lot of other games that I've yet to complete that can give me a complete experience so I've got little reason to burn out on this for a disappointing experience when I can instead wait for them to finish. There's a lot that could be done to liven up basic life on the raft so that it isn't just a grind. Unfortunately, that still hasn't really happened. I bought into EA because I saw what appeared to be a very solid engine with a reasonably multiplayer foundation on the expectation that the devs were positioned well to begin injecting notable gameplay content to fill out the core gameplay loop. Like the OP, I've found the early gameplay loop very simplistic and, though they've done a lot to extend the relatively short progression path to date, the new update doesn't address the core issues with lack of basic content. It's very disappointing given the amount of time they've spent on it. I'm very underwhelmed by the patch notes and what I've seen so far from the additional feedback others have given. Out of pure curiosity - have you even tried the new update ? Honestly no. Here you are, I was wondering how much time you'd need in order to start dumping on the new update. The devs are making good story progress but the basic gameplay elements are still quite shallow and in need of greater variety to keep things interesting. The construction elements are fine in some creative sense but lack gameplay depth. As far as depth of gameplay, it's still lacking.
